Why this journey works
From the Caribbean coast to the Andes.
A continuous arc through Colombia. Cartagena's old city to begin, the wild coast of Tayrona in the middle, the green hills of the Eje Cafetero to close. The pace stays even — only the landscape changes. None of the three stands alone as a full trip — Cartagena alone is a long weekend stretched thin; Tayrona alone is a beach escape with nothing to open or close it; the coffee region alone is a retreat with no arrival story. Together they read as one country told in three chapters, not three separate holidays.
Good to know
Airports
CTG (Cartagena) in, PEI (Pereira) out — two short domestic hops between the three stops.
Best order
Cartagena first, Tayrona second, coffee region last — city, then wild coast, then mountains.
Internal travel
Two short domestic flights. We handle the timings.
Pace
Three regions in twelve days — calm but not still.

Cartagena
Four nights inside the walls — plazas, music, evening light, no rush to leave.
Why this stop matters
The city half of the arc — the anchor before the wild coast and the mountains that follow.
Highlights
- Walled city walks — best at dusk
Drive
4h 45m–5h254 kmCartagena to the Tayrona coast — a long Caribbean road chapter, with the landscape turning greener as you move east.
Tayrona Coast
Drive to the wild Caribbean — jungle meeting sea, eco-stays, no plans.
Why this stop matters
The middle chapter, and the sharpest contrast in the arc: a walled city gives way to no walls at all.
Highlights
- Cabo San Juan — a long jungle walk, a quiet cove at the end
Flight
~2h 32m770 kmSanta Marta to the coffee region via Pereira — one internal flight, then a drive into the hills.
Coffee Region
Internal flight, hacienda days, cloud forest hikes — the mountains close the arc.
Why this stop matters
The closing chapter — coolest climate of the three, a deliberately quiet finish.
Highlights
- Wax palm forest — Colombia's national tree, in its native valley
- Salento — coloured balconies, Sunday market
