The Eje Cafetero trades heat for altitude — cool mornings, mist that burns off by mid-day, and hillsides worked as coffee farms for generations. Salento anchors the region: coloured balconies, a Sunday market, and the easiest base for the Valle de Cocora's wax palms and cloud forest. Days here run on hacienda time — a working coffee farm, lunch at an outside table, a horse ride under the palms. It rewards travellers willing to trade a beach for a mountain for a few days.
