Centro Histórico or Getsemaní: where to stay in Cartagena
Stay inside the walls for old-city mornings, or in Getsemaní for a neighbourhood that grows livelier as the day cools.
What do I gain by staying in the Centro Histórico?
Casa Claver and Casona del Porvenir place the old city immediately around the stay. That matters most early and late, when the streets are cooler and the plazas can be used without turning every outing into a transfer.
Choose the Centro for a first visit built around architecture, museums and short walks back to the room.
How is Getsemaní different?
Casa Lola and Hotel Capellán sit in a neighbourhood with more street life and a stronger evening rhythm around Plaza de la Trinidad. The walled centre remains close, but the feeling outside the door is less formal and more lived-in.
Is one area objectively better?
No. The useful distinction is how you want Cartagena to begin each morning and sound after dark. Pick the Centro for old-city immediacy; pick Getsemaní when the neighbourhood itself should be part of the evening.
